SEIU 49 Caregivers Are Taking a Stand for Dignity & Respect
On Monday, September 14, caregivers at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Randall Children’s Hospital, Unity, and Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center will take to the streets at both hospitals for a fair contract.
Caregivers are done waiting for dignity and respect. Legacy has the ability to fix this. So far, at the table, they have chosen not to.
An informational picket is a peaceful, public event. Caregivers will be on the public sidewalk before, during and after shifts, talking with patients, neighbors and anyone walking by about what it will take to fix staffing at Legacy. This is not a strike. Both hospitals will be open. Caregivers will be inside caring for patients, the same as any other day.
We are demanding an end to unfair labor practices and a contract with fair and equitable wages, affordable healthcare, and recognition of longevity, so Legacy can recruit and keep experienced caregivers and every patient gets safe, consistent care. Legacy can settle this contract today by respecting our work and meeting our priorities.

Community members, patients, families and neighbors are welcome. Bring water and comfortable shoes. Lunch will be provided for caregivers on the line. Add your name below and look for the sign-in table when you arrive.

Who We Are
For the first time since 2021, more than 1,100 SEIU Local 49 members at Legacy Health are heading back to the bargaining table, and we're not letting history go unspoken. These are the same certified nursing assistants, housekeepers, food service workers, lab techs, and patient care staff who showed up shift after shift through the darkest days of COVID-19, caring for our patients and our community when it mattered most.
We of the most diverse hospital workforces in the region, a reflection of the very communities we serve every day. Now it's our turn. SEIU Local 49 members are bargaining for a contract that matches that sacrifice and that diversity and history with real respect, fair wages, and dignity on the job in order to provide the best possible patient care for our communities.
